A new Batman Animated Series to debut on the WB

This just gleemed from Variety. Could be a possible attempt at corporate synergy (Batman: Year One). Read on..

Warner Bros. Animation will produce a new small-screen animated version of the Batman story for Kids’ WB and Cartoon Network. “The Batman” will bow on the Kids’ WB Saturday ayem sked this fall before moving over to sibling Cartoon Network in early spring 2005.

Story will catch up with Batman in year three, as he’s in his mid-20s and adjusting to his dual life as the Caped Crusader and billionaire bachelor Bruce Wayne. Classic rogue’s gallery of foes (Joker, Penguin, Catwoman, et al.) will be featured as young Batman meets them for the first time.

Theme song for skein will be performed by U2’s the Edge. Former Batman Adam West will lend his voice as the Mayor, and Gina Gershon will voice Catwoman.

Warner Bros. Animation has produced earlier toon incarnations of the character in “Batman: the Animated Series” and “Batman Beyond,” and the superhero continues to appear on the “Justice League” series seen on the Cartoon Network.

“The new series will continue this timeless tradition, while adding an exciting new interpretation that will appeal to current fans as well as attract a whole new generation to the celebrated Batman franchise,” said Sander Schwartz, prexy of Warner Bros. Animation.

Latest bigscreen version of “Batman” is forthcoming from Warner Bros. in 2005, helmed by Christopher Nolan and starring Christian Bale.

See? Things are looking up for the Dark Knight in ‘05. Hopefully, West won’t “ham it up” like he did with the old Filmation series. And Prince won’t write the new movie’s theme song.

I liked it very much, the action sequences I thought were really good. However I didn’t much like how the Joker appeared in this episode. But for the most part I believe it’s going to be a great series.
