Jim and I went to the Emerald City Comic Convention a few weeks ago and had an absolutely great time. From seeing the creators we wanted to meet to the swag, this con had the whole package. There was also a friendly vibe for the most part among the participants which is always a plus.

Personal highlights for me: I had a great talk with Bendis about Jessica Jones, Powers and the fact that my hubby and I met on the internet in a Wonder Woman comic chat room. Bendis was fascinated, and urged us to tell Greg Rucka about it. Funniest response of the day: Rucka saying “at least something good came out of Byrne’s run on WW”. Hee hee hee! I also had a great conversation about Wonder Woman and the vegetarian thing, and feel much better about where he is coming from and where the title is headed.

We also got great sketches. I got a Wonder Girl sketch by Todd Nauck that kicks total ass. Jim got a Kyle Green Lantern sketch from Nauck and several other artists. His favorite creator at the con was probably Jeff Johnson, who he got some original GL art from. I bought my first page of original art from Nauck- Young Justice of course. Now my hubby isn’t the only one with original art!!

Swag wise, we have a guy John and his partner Richard who always have the best deals at the cons we go to. They have a great selection and offer reader copies as well as high grade stuff. There is always sure to be fun at their booth, as the conversation is funny as hell as well as stimulating.

We also noted there was much more silver and golden age stuff then last year. There was also a ton of manga and toys compared to the year before. My main purchase was Uncanny X-Men 121, which made me happy indeed. I also found some cool silver age Justice League of America and an old school issue of Wonder Woman.

Other then an older lady and her son who tried to take cuts in front of me at the concession stand (HUGE mistake- never cut in front of a hungry diabetic), I encountered nothing but comic love all day! I got to see Jade Dodge and Matt Camp, the creators who did Shadows for Image. These are two talented people I hope to see more of.

Jeff Demonakas, one of the guys who runs the show ran around like his pants were on fire and seemed to be enjoying every minute. He took enough time out of his busy schedule to let me know that over three times more tickets were pre-sold and it looked like double the people were showing up. It sure seemed that way to me.

Longest creator lines: Bendis and Stan Sakai of Usagi Yojimbo fame. Also Bob Schreck had ‘em lined up for feet and inches . Other longest line: concessions for Pizza Hut and hot dogs! I won’t even start on the prices- oh what the hell, it was $3 for a frigging hot dog!!

Jim and I capped off the whole thing by spending that night in Seattle and going to Hooters for lunch the next day. It just doesn’t get any better then that, my friend.

Next year the Emerald City Con will be two days, March 12 and 13. I can hardly wait!
