An interesting little newsbite for you to chew on today. For those of you too young to remember, MTV’s been pretty important in the popularity of anime in the US since the mid 90s when a little movie called NINJA SCROLL had exerpts used as bumpers for the heavily infulential and important LIQUID TELEVISION series. NINJA SCROLL was eventually released in full and proved that properties other than Speed Racer and Akira could make a company some pretty good $$$ stateside.
Independent comic book publisher, eigoMANGA and MTV have joined together to support the efforts of both companies to reach college kids via anime. Next month eigoMANGA will host Campus Invasion, a live anime concert and anime career fair, including recruiters from anime co.’s, at San Francisco State University. The event will also serve as the set for a pilot for MTV’s cable network targeted to college age students, mtvU. Additionally, in support of MTV’s 20 Million Loud campaign, eigoMANGA will also host a Rock the Vote rally during Campus Invasion to get those of age to register to vote. mtvU has also approached eigoMANGA to be the official sponsor of mtvU’s student animation talent search. University students will submit animation shorts to mtvU in the effort of winning an animation contract with the upstart cable television network.
