I don’t normally run with the press releases, because if we ran every one that came into the email box, there’d be nothing else on this site. However, this one seems kinda interesting.

24 HOURS COMICS BESIEGED BY MONKEYS!
Industry Veteran Dave Lanphear to broadcast 24 Hour Comics efforts live on the internet.

On Saturday, April 24th, 2004, cartoonists all over the globe will face the 24-hour comics? challenge. To help cartoonists face this challenge, some comic book stores, educational institutions, and comics clubs are hosting special 24 Hour Comics Day events. Artist Dave Lanphear has decided to go another route.

www.artmonkeys.com has hosted some strange and ambitious occurrences in its time, but nothing as strange and ambitious as what web surfers will find this Saturday. Beginning at midnight EST and running for the full 24 hours of Saturday April 24, 2004, CrossGen letterer and freelance cartoonist Dave Lanphear will be webcasting his 24 Hour Comics endeavor.

Realizing that many comics? fans cannot visit one of the various locations where 24 Hour Comics events are being held, Lanphear decided to bring the experience right into comics? fan?s homes via their internet connection.

?All too often I hear about comics? fans that can?t make it to conventions, signings and other fun comics? related activities,? laments Lanphear. ?By allowing everyone to watch my 24 Hour Comics project live from the comfort of their own homes, I hope to alleviate some of that and allow those fans to share in the magic of comic creation.?

Lanphear, a long time art teacher also hopes to allow aspiring artists to ?watch over his shoulder digitally?, allowing them a new perspective on just how comics are created from start to finish.

Be sure to bookmark www.artmonkeys.com and check in often on 4/24. The webcast will update once per minute and each finished page will be uploaded onto the site as it is completed.
