THE WALKING DEAD Preview

Man, if you don’t already know that Robert Kirkman’s THE WALKING DEAD is one of the best goddamn books on the market, then you need to wake up. With the recent success of 28 Days Later and Dawn Of The Dead, HBO should lock TWD into a series development deal ASAP, because Kirkman’s managed to create a serial zombie story that simultaneously exceeds and blows up any expectations you may have going in. Of course, a large part of the series’ initial success is the amazing art from Tony Moore. Those of us who have been Kirkman and Moore fans for a while now have been wondering when Marvel or DC were gonna make young Mr. Moore an offer he couldn’t refuse, and that day came just a short while ago.

Enter Charlie Adlard.

Probably best known for his work with Larry Young on the Astronauts In Trouble series, Adlard’s set to take over the TWD reigns from Moore. Fans are talking about the new art team (with Cliff Rathburn on the graytones), and are waiting on the collective edge of their seat to see what’s gonna happen to the book.

Luckily, I happen to have Mr. Kirkman’s email address, and even luckier, he likes 4CR. So, here are a couple of sample pages from the upcoming Adlard Era of THE WALKING DEAD.

Tony, speaking for the fans of the book, we’ll miss ya. Charlie – we’re glad to have ya.

Here you go, folks. I’ll add a few more pages tomorrow.

I think that it might be a little harsh to say that he’s being lazy. Far from it, actually. But I must agree, Moore’s work is also my preferance. But, of course, Mr.Adlard, you’re work is still outstanding. Love it, and I can’t get enough of it.

I will say that things became a little confusing after Moore stopped illustrating the comic. But after a few issues with Adlard and Kirman putting character names/bios in the back of issues it became easy to get into again. Although I am a huge Moore fan and was a bit upset when he was off TWD, I still think its going strong and is a great comic.
