Back From San Diego…

Well, here I am, back from the 2004 Comic-Con International. I’m not quite recovered yet, mind you, but I figured I should make a showing here to at least thank Britt for keeping the site going last week. The internet connections I was able to scrape together were less than stable, which is the explanation for why there wasn’t even more 4CR coverage of the show as it happened. - my hotel didn’t have any access, I discovered far too late in the game. But that’s OK - it just means that I have more than enough photos and con nonsense to talk about throughout this week!
Real quick for now, as I still need to imbibe some caffeine and water just to even myself out. The biggest surprise hit of the show had to be the Happy Tree Friends booth. A visual melding of Care Bears with Sanrio characters, these fuzzy, cute little critters were constantly stopping unaware con attendees cold with their innocent looks and extremely sweet animated shorts that were broadcast non-stop on the plasma TV in the booth. You’d be walking by, glancing at the screen when :::BAM::: a pink squirrel was suddenly holding her eyes and brain in her hands. Stick around for q few minutes, and you got to see an anteater have his tongue destroyed when his potential dinner took exception to his chosen menu, followed by a big, dumb moose who can never seem to manage to get the hang of keeping his blood inside his body, followed by more cartoon mayhem you could imagine. The HTF booth seemed to be doing a brisk bit of business, selling DVDs, t-shirts, stickers and stuffed versions of their characters that you could rip apart and see the innards of, just like in the cartoons! Funny, funny stuff that had a constant crowd of people milling about, laughing, cringing and spending money from preview night to the end of the day Sunday.
