Periphery is an anthology collection of sorts, except it doesn?t collect poetry but great stories told by a group of up and comers in the comics industry. From the horror feel of Steve Niles to the satire of Mark Fearing, Periphery offers something for everyone.

Presented by Omaha Perez?s comic?s imprint, there are six separate tales being told. The lead one is by Niles with art by Bryan Horton and deals with two bad boys coming back to their old haunts with a serious twist of fate. Next up is ?Jerry Caveman Inventory?; a short by Fearing that shows what would happen if shoes had been invented then. Following that is ?The Handsomest Man in the World?, an ironic tale of how looks influence the treatment of others, by Eli 5 Stone and Perez. A visually disturbing two page tale called ?Closed Case? by Brian Horton is next up, with another Niles written story with art by Perez following. Wrapping up this book is ?The Story of Ganesha? a follow up of sorts to the Bodhisattva graphic novel by Richard Raleigh and Perez.

O Periphery is a great jam session for the creators involved. On their own, each person involved is getting buzz for their projects, especially Niles, who has two films in the works, but in collaboration this team-up creates an amazing piece of work.

My personal favorite tale is the lead in story by Niles and Horton for the sheer shock value, but there wasn?t a bad story in the bunch. The unique sense of humor displayed by Fearing on Jerry Caveman gave me a big chuckle as well. It was also nice to revisit the creative team behind Bodhisattva GN.

For readers looking for a great jam session of creative talents, look no further then the Periphery comic. Perez and his friends are on the right track to causing a new wave of commotion in the talent pool of comic book creators. Periphery is a book that shows something new and different in an age of sometimes stagnant creation. Ask for it at your local comic book shop, and if they don?t have it, I am sure they can order it.
