In Adventures of Superman #632, Lois Lane is shot and there is nothing Superman can do to prevent it. At the end of issue #631 he becomes aware of it and hauls tail to Sumac, where she is covering the war. Helpless to do anything other then get her medical attention, the stoic, inconsolable expressions that play over the Man of Steel?s face show his love for her, and his grief at not being there. To make matters worse, the villain called Ruin he was facing the previous issue is causing havoc of his own back in Metropolis.

Greg Rucka has thrown Lois and Superman into the meat grinder for sure, which makes for great storytelling. There is a sense of the unknown which keeps the reader eager for more. Rucka is one of the best writers in the business when it comes to pacing and scripting. From his work on Queen & Country, to his current run on Wonder Woman, Rucka shows a strength for keeping us guessing.

Guest artist Paul Pelletier does the work of his career here. Though I have always been a fan of his art, his style has matured greatly since his stint at CrossGen, bringing a new sense of charisma to his work. Inker Rick Maygar is a perfect compliment to Pelletier, enhancing his style with clean lines and a bold style.

If you aren?t reading Adventures of Superman, run, don?t walk, to the store and get as much of Rucka?s run as you can. It is truly the Superman title to be reading, full of excellent characterization and gorgeous sequential art.
