Wade and Converse use “Flash”y tactics to hustle shoes

Wade as the FlashI was watching SportsCenter today and caught this great commercial with Dwayne Wade of the Miami Heat pimping his new kicks from Converse. There were appearances (albiet in the two-dimensional form) by former Converse pitchmen Dr. J and Grandmama (aka former UNLV and Charlotte Hornet Larry Johnson) and old school Hip-Hop icon Grandmaster Flash. All of them were thinking of a nickname for Wade since he is becoming a big star in the league. Well, the last name that was brought up was the Flash, which was rebuffed by an animated version of the Wally West character.

The reason is that I bring this commercial up (other than to show off my mad b-ball knowledge) is that the way that Flash was used has always been the best way for comic book characters (okay, maybe strictly superheroes) to be presented on the small screen. Think of the Superman/Jerry Seinfeld AMEX commercial. Yeah, it poked fun at the Man of Tommorrow but at least the Man of Steel didn’t look like his stomach was the only thing made of steel. Too bad the same can’t be said for Visa’s Captain America in the now infamous Visa Check Card commercial. Hey, Cap, next time, just say no to Craft Services.

“The Flash” – created especially for the commercial by the Grandmaster. The guy still has mad DJ skillz.

Uh yeah, this guy has so much basketball knowledge that he cant even spell DWYANE Wade’s name right. He’s only the reason this article was written and he’s only one of the best players in the NBA. It’s not a big deal if basketball fans with so much “knowledge” can’t spell his name right! haha, what a joke.

I find it funny how Carmelo Anthony and Lebron James at first took the spotlight as being the “new, true players” of the NBA and no one gave a damn about the third guy, Wade. Now Carmelo can’t even make a simple three-pointer even if every player on the court got out of his way and gave him all the space in the world. And Mr. James is no longer King. If there is ever going to be a Michael Jordan clone, it’s definitely Dwyane Wade. Go Heat!

Why is Converse hiding the dollar amount being paid to wade? How can one of the biggest names in the NBA get paid $400,000 annually for a shoe contract? $90,000,000 for LB and Wade plays in a big money market. I hope this kid isn’t being pimped. Next he’ll sign a 7yr contract with the Heat for $50,000,000 to help save money for the team. Wade had better mature or we’ll see that LB is younger but much more mature/wise.
