OK, am I completely stupid or does this not sound like an excellent idea for a TV show?
Dexter,” based on Jeff Lindsay’s novel “Darkly Dreaming Dexter,” which centers on Dexter Morgan, a highly respected lab technician for the Miami Dade Police Department specializing in blood spatter, a handsome polite man who also happens to be a sociopathic serial killer who commits occasional dismemberments.
The pitch alone is, as my friends and I put it, “HBO Quality”, but will the execution be there? In the past, I’d doubt it, but over the last 3 years or so, Showtime’s done a good job of reinventing themselves. The series thy’ve aired in the last few years have been pretty good with a few (Bullshit, Dead Like Me) being downright excellent. These days, HBO alone is enough to make me pay ridiculous amounts for my cable, but with Showtime adding more series to the mix, I’m feeling more and more like I’m getting my money’s worth.
Other new pitches for Showtime include a show about Henry VIII, a show about male and female escorts and some weird mystery show called “The Bastard.” Props for the name alone.
