Hero-Clix Hitting The Mainstream

I’ve never played the game, but I know it’s become insanely popular with the guys that work at the comic shop I use. Hero-Clix came out a few years ago, and while it was originally marketed towards the kids, like Magic: The Gathering, it’s found a large audience with grown men and women as well. With some figures hitting $200 or so on ebay, it’s obviously got it’s rabid followers. Judging by this article, it’s starting to hit the mainstream as well.

They’re teachers, attorneys and students by day, but on the weekends, they take on the roles of superheroes and super villains.

That is, at least, for the purposes of a game called HeroClix.

Chance Kirchhof , 31, of Coralville has organized weekly tournaments at the Robert A. Lee Community Recreation Center for about 30 players of the game, which features miniatures of favorite comic book characters.

“It’s just a great game — real fun, quick,” Kirchhof said.
