This article makes it seem like people are skipping out on the whole moviegoing experience this season due to an increased desire to see flicks at home on their TVs instead of on the big screen, combined with a “weak line-up of movies” right now. Nobody seemed to think to ask those polled if it has to do with having to deal with higher and higher prices as well as less and less courtesy from the assholes around you in the theater. I’ve had pretty decent luck with the last few movies the wife and I have gone to see, but I always start the show in a semi-stressed state due to expectations of talking idiots and ringing cell phones.

An Associated Press-AOL poll last week found that 73 percent of adults prefer watching movies on DVD, videotape or pay-per-view rather than going to the theatre.

Studio executives blame the downturn on a comparatively weak line-up of movies this year and say it will take more time to determine if DVDs and other home-entertainment options are eroding theatre business.
