Yeah, OK. That was a little bit of alright. It was a little too quick of a read, but with Miller at the helm, I’m fairly certain that when we get a chance to sit down and tear through 6 issues at a pop it’ll feel more satisfying. There are some very nice references to scenes and doodads from Year One, and Miller and Lee manage to make Vicki Vale as unannoying as possible while avoiding turning her into a Lois Lane clone.
Speaking of Lee, where his Superman run stumbled in the art department constantly, B&RTBW soars. Easily the best work of his since his comeback on Hush a few years back, this book’s artwork actually features genuine storytelling and a sense of motion in the figures and panels. Definitely a step up from the usual Lee repitoire of a series of iconic poses featuring beautiful people.
Ultimately, worth the money, not quite living up to the hype yet, but the potential is definetely there. I’m glad I bought it. Next up: Morrison and Quitely’s Superman. Oh yes.
