Batman Great Jim Aparo passes away

Silver-Age Artist and one of my and Eric’s favorite Batman pencilers, Jim Aparo, passed away this morning due to illness. While I can’t speak for Eric, I can say that his Batman (along with Neal Adams) was the Batman that I grew up reading and look to as one of the definitive renditions. I never got the chance to meet him to tell him how much I loved his Batman and how I still hold every other Batman artist up to his work. Comics are a less colorful place with his passing.
Here is an excerpt of the announcement that was sent out to the news sources:
From Spencer Beck - The Aparo Family has asked me to send this information out to all parties. It is with the deepest regret I have to inform you of the passing of the legendary Jim Aparo early Tuesday Morning, July 19, 2005. Mr. Aparo, who was 72, died from complications relating to a recent illness. All Funeral arrangements will be a private ceremony for Family and Friends of Jim.

Just terrible. Not much else can be said, other than maybe he and Bob Haney are at this very moment working on a new B&B story in the great comic creator afterlife. His will always be the Batman I see in my head too.

Many of my early Batman memories include Mr. Aparo’s work. I am saddened by his passing…
Best wishes to his family…
