“The Freshmen” Sells Out, Top Cow Gobsmacked

I just received the latest newsletter from Top Cow, and aside form the normal fluffy promo pieces in it, there was an interesting bit on “The Freshmen.” Seems that the Seth Green title sold out at the distributor level the day after it hit the stands, and now Top Cow says that “Top Cow productions will monitor the market and canvas retailers for feedback to determine if a second printing is necessary.”
After having worked in comic shops for a number of years, my brain automatically translates this into Top Cow trying to decide if they should just reprint a few thousand copies of the thing to make the fans happy or seeing if they can get away with some sort of scam to milk them for all they’re worth a la a special 2-issue collection that costs more than the individual issues originally did, some special Dynamic Forces deal, etc.. I hope they make the smart choice, but history tells me that that’s pretty much a long shot.
