Never one to bow to traditional Hollywood thinking, Robert Rodriguez is openly telling people not to bother with the first “Sin City” DVD due out Tuesday. Shouldn’t be much of a problem for most Miller fans - the special edition version due out further down the road sounds incredibly sweet.
“If you’re going to put out a bare-bones version when I’m not finished with my special edition, you better know I’m going to call the real one `the real one’ because this is the bogus one,'’ said the baritone-voiced director of films such as Desperado and the Spy Kids movies.
In translating Frank Miller’s series of graphic novels to the big screen, the three stories that comprise the movie — That Yellow Bastard, The Big Fat Kill and The Hard Good-Bye — were truncated for theatrical release.
“You’ll be able to watch it that way… Then you can see the real cut, which is how you should watch it with all the stories separated as short films,'’ Rodriguez said, “because we shot all of the material from the books so that’s really cool, so you can have a different experience watching it and seeing it the way you’d read the books.'’
