American Laundromat Records and Face Down Records announced the 12/1/05 release of their anthology High School Reunion: A Tribute to Those Great 80s Films, which features good, aging-hipster artists like Frank Black, Matthew Sweet, Kristen Hersh, and John Strohm covering good, aging-hipster songs like “Repo Man,” “American Girl,” “Wave of Mutilation,” and “Somebody’s Baby,” respectively. Comp will also feature Lori McKenna, The Dresden Dolls, AM, Nova Social, and the always-popular more.

Ha ha! Crap. This is how web marketing works at its best, I guess.
Dunno if I’m going to get it or not. These kinds of things unfortunately usually are better in theory than they are in practice…but it’s probably worth a spin, I figure. It’s such a fun idea. You picking it up?

You’re right about the concept being better in theory. I’ve heard the samples of most of their songs and most of them just do the standard cover of the songs. Only a couple of them actually try to rearrange them. But, I dig most of the songs and the samples did sound pretty good. If you want the discount link, let me know.
