Last year was a big one for Kung Fu Rodeo/4-Color Review. In addition to the name change, we added a new writer, revamped the entire site design and look and officially and successfully expanded our focus from mainly comic books to a broader pop-culture worldview. While the site as a whole saw growth throughout the year, these five stories in particular lit up the search engines and our stats page.
Kung Fu Rodeo’s Top 5 Stories of 2005:
1 - The Death of Freda Wright Sorce - The tragic and unexpected death of the wife of one of the top radio personalities in the country was, unfortunately, a huge traffic draw. Hopefully we won’t have a similar story in the top spot for 2006.
2 - Teen Titans Toys From The SDCC - Who’da thunk it? Teen Titans is really, really popular, and when we posted a few photos from CCI, traffic spiked immediately and remained high for the next few months.
3 - John Byrne VS Wikipedia - This one almost beat out the Teen Titans posting in popularity, despite arriving on the scene a few 2 months later. When I wrote the piece up, I really didn’t expect it to become such a big deal, but I learned never to underestimate the draw of Byrne plus controversy.
4 - G-Love Revamps Coke Song - While the Coke Zero product is going relatively unnoticed on the shelves, G-Love’s contribution to the ad campaign, a revamped version of “I’d Like To Teach The World To Sing,” raised the hackles of more than a few fans.
5 - Britt’s Judas Priest Concert Review - Britt’s review of the Priest concert he attended back in June managed to captivate readers for months, and is still bringing in new readers.
