Hasbro Inc. announced today that it has acquired the rights to exclusively make games and toys based on Marvel characters in a $205 million, five-year deal. Marvel ended their license with Toy Biz, current holders of the toy rights, one year early to make the deal. Hasbro will be able to release their new Marvel products beginning January 1, 2007.
What does this mean for Toy Biz’s beloved Marvel Legends, Marvel Select, and Spider-Man Classics toy lines? Who knows — but grab ‘em while you can.

Just a follow-up that’s semi related: I finally broke down and bought the brown costumed Marvel Legends Wolverine (my favorite look of my favorite character), and it is crazy awesome. Definitely one of the best action figures I’ve ever seen.
I understand that, since Marvel owns Toy Biz, their profits are direct tied to the ups and downs of the very-shaky toy industry, so having a 3rd party make their toys is a smart business move. But still, I seriously doubt Hasbro will make anything as good as Marvel Legends - the articulation, the detail, everything is just unbelievable. Too bad.
