Say It Ain’t So: Spidey’s New Costume?

Marvel.com is saying that this is Spider-Man’s new costume. Playfully dubbed the “Iron Spidey” costume, as it was designed by Tony Stark in the current “The Other” storyline, these new duds have been hinted at for awhile. It is unclear whether or not this will really replace Spider-Man’s classic blue and red outfit — but let’s hope it doesn’t. Yikes.

Maybe that isn’t the final version. The cover that they show appears to have webbing under the arms, but this one does not show it.

I think there is some final art up on marvel.com by Joe Quesada. It’s a catch 22; we all want the big publishers to shake things up once in awhile, but often times their costume redesigns are underwhelming. I personally think that Spider-Man’s blue and red costume, Bat’s black and grey, Superman’s costume, and Wolverine’s brown costume are pretty much perfect. Why mess with them?
