Reports are starting to trickle out that Bryan Singer’s “Superman Returns” is going to be setting hollywood records even before it’s released, with a rumored budget overrunning significantly. With a semi0-official budget of 250 million to start, Singer may actually be over costs by as much as 50 million by the time the movie is in the can, and that’s all before the marketing even begins! Singer and the Man of Steel are in good company, though - “Spider-Man 3″ is reported to have a 250 million dollar production budget as well, although it also has a track record of making massive bank at the box office to support such a hefty spending spree. With a sure fire hit like “King Kong” struggling to break even stateside right now (207 million dollar budget), Singer and Superman really have their work cut out for them.

I’ll be honest: this movie ain’t gonna tank. But $300 million? Come on. That’s asinine and, frankly, kind of disgusting.
Quote from Warner Bros board meeting, 3/25/05: “So, what do you guys think? Should we get this Superman project off the ground finally? Pun intended, Rubinoff! Or should we just buy a Central American country?”
