‘Superman Returns’ Toy Packaging
Author: Stephen Gerding

Seems to be a little overdone with the crystals and Fortress of Solitude theme, but what the hell, right? I wonder if Crystal Smashing action is gonna end up being the Kung Fu Grip for the new millenium. Probably not…

My 5&3 year old sons will love it. I’ll get them one. I on the other hand collect action figures will not be bying one for myself.

Since the first time I saw photos of the costume and the movie, I have thought the same thing. Looks like the movie should properly be titled “Superman: Brokeback Krypton” or “Clark & Grace”. Why does no one else see this but me?

A gay version of the Batman Begins toy package

Sorry J.D., I just don’t see it. Batman & Robin, yeah. But I think the Supes costume and look of the film are pitch perfect.

I will approach this movie with extreme skepticism.

Compared to the 1980 loosely based tie -in Superman toys when Superman the movie came out, this one is very closely tied in with solid licensing images. Those toys had no crystal accessories. That’s one legacy that STM production designer John Barry has added to the mythos.

Compared to the Justice League figure of Superman, I think this looks great! I can’t wait for the movie! The anticipation is killing me!

It will be your favorite movie of all time.

Well this is about the toy not the movie and the toy looks very cool. Sorry but I dont like Batman Begins toys too dark for my taste.

I think the toy looks fine. When I was a 8 and Batman the movie came out, I loved my Toy Biz Batman figures to death, and they look like crap compared to this. That’s all that matters: can kids play with ‘em. As much as I love the finer sculptured action figures — I’ve bought a few myself — I find it strange when I read online review of toys and “critics” complain about action features (i.e. a lever that makes the figure punch, or something). Kids love that stuff! Toys should be geared towards kids, not adults.

Well the director is gay so why shouldn’t the figure and the movie look homoerotic
January 27th, 2006 at 7:55 am
How does it look homoerotic? If anything, the colors are a tad darker than Supes’ comics costume.

Let’s be honest here: all superheros — male and female — are erotic on some level. You’re kidding yourself if you don’t think so.
This is no more and no less “gay” than anything else. Although in that photo he does look like he’s about to rock the coke spoon at Studio 54 circa ‘75… KIDDING.

I think that people (basically fanboys) can’t handle the new interpretation of Superman. Let’s break it down:
He’s a 20-something guy in Metropolis, the quasi-New York City, working for the city paper. You know that he’s gonna have to be a metrosexual to fit in.

I think we should also remember that supposedly Singer is drawing from the first two R. Donner movies, right? I’m sure you’ll recall that that in those films Superman arrived on Earth in a pink crystal chandelier…
STILL KIDDING.

The only things that bug me about the costume are the insecure small “S” and the near-turtle neckline. Fix those, and you have a great looking costume.

I agree — there’s something weird about the little “S” belt buckle. I mean, it’s not a deal breaker, but still a little off.

MB doesn’t understand the meaning of the word homoerotic

i’m glad to see that toy companies are bringing back the cloth capes like the old Super Powers collection. i really hated the plastic ones.

yesterday i picked up the “clark to superman” figure, which im guessing is the “black-suited batman” figure of this line. in other words, if your gonna get only one of the superman figures, get this one. only thing is that when you are putting on his clark kent outfit, the cape doesnt detach so you have to tuck it in real good, but then you have a crumpled-looking cape. but when you get his clark clothes on, he acually looks decent. just be careful with the cape.
today, i went and bought my second superman figure, the “xray vision” superman. i got him mainly cuz he has clenched fists. he comes with a safe with a piece “kryptonite- bomb looking thing, not sure what it is but i think thats what it is, and a safe that you put it inside that breaks apart when supes throws it. the action feature on the figure is that you put the safe in his hands and he “throws” it down, breaking it aart. you just pull back his arms and wiola, he throws it. pretty cool i guess, but i LOVE the cloth capes. i liked it on the Batman begins figures, and i love it on these superman ones. MUCH better then plastic, i like the flow of the capes.
anyways, i like these new toys for Superman Returns. i also liked the Batman Begins line, although that line got VERY repetitive.
