Sometimes it’s the oddest combinations that end up being the most interesting. CBR just posted a story about a gentleman who has turned his Model A Ford into a travelling comic book museum by spending over a year airbrushing what appears to be thousands of comic book and cartoon characters on it. Dude began with The Yellow Kid and worked his way up to modern characters, one at a time, like a man obsessed. Still, for a project that could easily have been an atrocity of mythic proportions, the end result is oddly awesome.

Model T Detail

Luczun began airbrushing characters onto the truck on October 18th, 2004, the anniversary of the first published comic, “The Yellow Kid” (October 18th, 1896). He finished painting the truck just a few short weeks ago, January 12th, 2006. “As much as possible, the truck was disassembled and a lot of it was painted in back breaking positions,” said Luczun. “The only record I kept was on airbrush painting hours– over 2,000. This does not include the original restoration of the Model A, research and layout. I expanded also into wartime illustrations, political cartoons, movie stars and sci-fi.

“Other airbrush artists look at me as if I’m nuts when they see the truck and what it took to get it there,” continued Luczun. “At least I don’t have any worry about anyone trying to copy it! I think the best part is the joy I get when a person says to me, ‘I never thought I’d see that cartoon ever again, it was my favorite. Thanks for letting me re-live a fun part of my life!’ It doesn’t get any better than that!”
