WETA Limited, the company best known for their high-end movie statues and prop reproductions, has announced a partnership with DC Direct to produce “Superman Returns” statues. This is a little interesting, since DC Direct has always handled their movie tie-in merch on their own in the past. I wonder if WB Studios stepped in to make sure their big film of the year has higher quality stuff on the market to soak up every last penny of that repressed fanboy money this summer. Either way, the statues should look incredible, and the price will let you know they aren’t playthings.

The line, of high-end collectibles for Weta, a division of WETA Workshop, art directed by Superman Returns director Bryan Singer, will feature themed figures: The Returning Son, The Daily Planet, Fallen Hero and Disaster Averted. The Toy Fair debut will feature limited edition, high-end polystone statues.

“While it has been exciting working on the movie, it has also been a most rewarding and enjoyable experience working with Weta to create a range of high-end collectibles,” Superman Returns director Bryan Singer notes. “Special moments from the film have now been memorialized by their craftsmanship, serving as tributes to the work and the fans alike.”
