There’s a new villain in Batman’s life - Osama bin Laden

Batman is tired of beating up his own Rogues Gallery. He’s decided to go after the US’ Public Enemy Number One - Osama bin Laden, at least according to Frank Miller. Ever the maverick creator, Miller was recently quoted that he’ll bring this epic tale of the Dark Knight versus the leader of al-Qaeda sometime next year. But that’s not the best part, the working title for this graphic novel is (wait for it) “Holy Terror, Batman!” Ughh, give me a friggin’ break. I don’t know whether to be sick by the sheer guile of the book’s exploitive propaganda or just by the godawful title. Anyway, here’s Miller justifying.. oops, I mean explaining the book’s premise in the UK Telegraph:
In Holy Terror, Batman!, a new graphic novel by the Batman writer Frank Miller, the Caped Crusader will take on al-Qa’eda when his home town, Gotham City, which is based on New York, is attacked by terrorists.
“It is, not to put too fine a point on it, a piece of propaganda - Batman kicks al-Qa’eda’s ass,” Mr Miller told a San Francisco comic book convention. “It just seems silly to chase around the Riddler when you’ve got al-Qa’eda out there.
“Superman punched out Hitler. So did Captain America. That’s one of the things they’re there for. It’s an explosion from my gut reaction of what’s happening now, a reminder to people who seem to have forgotten who we’re up against.”

I like to think Miller’s too intelligent for this not to be ironic, but…

This will either be great or retarded.

I don’t see how it can avoid retardation.
I think Frank’s gone bye bye.

Well, in his interview with The Onion, Miller seemed to be very anti-Bush. Not that being anti-Bush means you can’t be in favor of croaking terrorists, but yes, Batman Vs. Osama, at least superficially, reeks of Bush-esque patriotism propaganda.

I’m obviously of the mindset that this one will beat DK2 as the worse Frank Miller Batman of all-time.

Spawn/Batman is the worst FM Batman of all-time dude.

I don’t know about that. I’ll have to pull that issue out from the archives and re-read. But DK2 was terrible; and that’s not even taking into account the extreme lateness of the third issue.

No, no - Batman/Spawn was the worst! Spawn/Batman is insanely over the top, but complete mindless fun! And the kids go apeshit every Halloween when I hand copies out.

Which Spawn/Batman was drawn by McFarlane? That was awesome stuff.
The Klaus Janson one sucked hairy balls.
DK2 is one of the worst comics ever made. Hands down

Haha I kinda liked DK2.

Yeah, DK2 is a mess, but there are some interesting ideas in there.

Anyone read the book BATMAN UNMASKED? It takes a look at the Batman comics published during World War 2 and notes that, despite all the flag-waving covers and War Bonds ads, the overwhelming majority of the actual STORIES published during that time seemed to go out of their way to AVOID mentioning the war- there was, in fact, only ONE “Batman vs. the Nazis” story ever done!(even the jingoistic Batman Movie Serial had a strange dissconnected quality- Batman himself never appears in the same scene as the anti- Japaese material, as if the propaganda material was added later). The author concluded that there was something about Batman and Gotham City that just didn’t fit in with this kind of “real world” content.I’ve always known that Miller’s Batman didn’t fit the “classic” version of the character, but this does point out just HOW far away he is from the real thing.

Man, this is a really good point. I have my fingers crossed for this thing to be, I don’t know, kind of satirical or somthing. I mean, look at the title…

But it doesn’t sound like satire — not from the way Miller is describing it. It really could just be a superhero fighting terrorists. It’s funny though…Superman is much more representative of “truth, justice, and the American way” than Batman is. “Superman Vs. al Qaeda” almost makes more sense, if you were going to do it ironically or seriously.
My guess is Batman is gonna “terrorize” the terrorists.
