According to Variety, Dave McKean is set to follow up his directorial debut on Henson Co.’s “Mirrormask” adaptation with bringing another novel to the big screen with “Varjak Paw,” a story about a kung fu cat. Apparently the novel is well liked, winning awards and what have you, so it definitely sounds as if it has potential. Here’s hoping McKean, who is co-writing the screenplay in addition to his directorial duties, serves it’s fanbase well, especially since the deal already includes the book’s sequel.
Lisa Henson, co-CEO of Henson Co., will produce; Said and McKean will exec produce. Senior veep Jason Lust will shepherd development.
“Many of the book’s inspirations were cinematic, from old martial-arts movies to ‘The Matrix,’ and Varjak’s fans are always asking if there’ll be a film,” Said said. “Now we have a chance to make an amazing movie for them, and for everyone who hasn’t yet met the kung fu cat.”

I think McKean illustrates the Varjak Paw books.
