WB Interested In “Green Lantern” Trilogy

Well, this could be cool if they do it right, ie: ignore Hal and focus on John, Kyle and the intergalactic aspect of the Corps. Seems that Warners is interested in the Green Lantern concept for not just one movie, but a possible trilogy of flicks. This tidbit of information just happened to pop out over at the boards on TheXverse.com when Simon Kinberg (who wrote “X3″) was answering fan questions.
Also, while we’re off-topic, have you heard even the slightest mention in Hollywoodland about “Green Lantern”? I’m totally aching for this to happen! A hero who’s true power is his own will, with a touch of “Top Gun”. Grounded in reality, with no more a hint of other worlds than in “Superman”, and I reckon this would rock!
*I know Warner Brothers is actively developing the feature. I think they’re even talking about developing a trilogy. I would imagine their approach will be very grounded in reality, as that seems to be the tone they’ve used for other recent DC films.

Grounding Green Lantern in reality s a good recipe for failure.

I dunno - it all depends on how they’d approach this take. If they try to Last Starfighter it up, it would be hard pressed to work, but if they were to take a Battlestar Galactica approach, it could be amazing.

Steve, your hatred of Hal bothers me to no end…

Steve is really Sinestro in disguise.

Steve, what do you mean? If they make a bad film (like Last Starfighter) it will be bad, but if they make a good film (like the new Battlestar), it will be good?

Last Starfighter isn’t all that bad.

I just find Hal to be a tired character who DC never allowed to rest long enough to properly re-introduce and revamp. When GA was dead, we didn’t see him for years in one form or another, running around the DCU, so when he was resurrected, the story was actually interesting rather than a foregone and boring concclusion.

“Last Sarfighter” was an amesome flick, but the plot - loser kid saves the universe - would not do the GL concept justice. Now, you set up the GLC universe like Sci Fi’s “Battlestar Galactica,” you’ve got a movie that could deal with the GLC in a realistic and engaging way.

GA: Quiver was okay…and some of it I thought was very stupid. I suppose cause I was a fan of neither character previously, I have a different perpective. But I thought Rebirth was actually quite good. Definitely a more sensical and engaging resurrection for a character than Quiver was.

Last Starfighter was a great film. Honestly, the Kyle Rayner GL story is very similar - loser kid gets ultimate weapon!
That said, it’d be way better if they had the whole Corp and it was “expanding” to Earth or something.

I realize that I’m not necessarily siding with majority opinion when I say this, but I honestly feel that Rebirth was the most overhyped, half-baked storyline I’ve read in years. Yellow is the color of fear?

Rebirth didn’t do a helluva lot for me either, man.

Rebirth started off well, then fizzled off. The GL ongoing has been more of the same.
The character is still good, and at least it’s the real Hal. Not Emo-Hal, a la Denny O’Neil.

Of course yellow is color of fear! Haven’t you ever heard the expression, “You’re yellow?”

I thought Rebirth was pretty kick ass. It wasn’t Year One or anything like that, but I enjoyed the hell out of it. I thought they did a good job of retro-explaining all the Paralax stuff that was beaten to death. We all knew the Guardians were cocky, useless buggers and this confirmed it. Johns picked up on a couple of good things that in my limited hindsight still seem true - Guy did make fun of all Hal’s old foes (deservedly so), but never Sinestro. Yes, I have the issues where GA, GL, and Sinestro dress up as clowns to fool some aliens, but if DC is trying to make Sinestro a big bad, this did that.
And say what you will - but the Oath of the Green Lantern is still one of the greatest things EVER. I was some pissed that DC’s GL shirt just has the logo on the front - would’ve been awesome if the Oath was on the back.
