Traditionally an online comic book publisher, Komikwerks is launching an all new line of illustrated prose novels aimed at the young adult market. The novels will be grouped under the publishing umbrella of Actionopolis and will be available through regular comic book stores, as well as traditional book stores and websites such as Amazon. They’ve recently launched their website promoting their first round of titles, and have included sample chapters for download. One of the books, “Heir To Fire,” is written by Comics2Film’s Rob Worley, with art by D&D artist, Mike Dubsch. Rob gave us the following description of their book.
It’s for young adults…It’s part of a new line of novels from prominent creators of comics, movies, video games…Published by Komikwerks…”‘Heir to Fire’ is a mix of monsters, horror and heroes…all stuff I love. The hero, Ryan Morales, is a shy kid who has trouble fitting in, but he’s about to realize that keeps him apart from everyone else, is the very thing that will save the day once monstrous creatures are unleashed in his home town of Gila Flats”
“Mike Dubisch is a fantastic Dungeons and Dragons artist that’s illustrated numerous gaming related publications. He’s designed some amazing creatures the come into cataclysmic conflit in the climactic chapters of the book!”
“on sale in August in comic stores and book stores”
I read a bit of Rob’s book, and it’s pretty good. Got a Stephen King for 10-14 year olds sort of vibe to it, and should give the proper chills to plenty of young teen readers.
As fear welled up inside Ryan, he failed to notice that Donut had abruptly stopped talking. Ryan looked at his friend who stared at the Oobakka house, his bottom lip trembling. “R-R-Ryan,” Donut stammered quietly.
Ryan followed Donut’s gaze to the house. Pinpricks of shock rippled through his body again as he saw a dark figure standing in one of the house’s windows, illuminated only by the moonlight. The figure was tall and slender and hunched over, like a skinny old man with bone disease. As the person walked in front of the window the boys saw his bony, slender fingers with long nails that he kept curled in front of him like a praying mantis.
