Nick At Nite Makes Me Feel Old

I remember when Nick At Nite first launched, waaaay back in the day. The ads all hyped the fact that they were playing classic TV, and as far as I remember, all the shows were old - as in Black & White old. It was inevitable that they’d eventually hit the color era of TV, and they did with Mary Tyler Moore and the rest of her 70s brethren. Yet, somehow, I never really expected them to catch up to the shows of my teenage years/early 20s for quite a while yet. It disturbs me greatly to know that some poor kid is now going to have A Different World marketed to them as classic TV. News Radio, sure, but Designing Women and Home freaking Improvement? When exactly did Nick At Nite lose their standard of quality? And when in the hell did I officially become old?

I was just talking to the wife about this very subject during the Miami Vice marathon last weekend. And while you can’t escape the fact that you are old, just seeing how dated Crockett and Tubbs’ wardrobe really hammers that point home unfortunately.
