Hellboy! It’s not all Superman games at E3 this year. Other comic book characters are getting in on the action as well, including Mike Mignola’s perennial favorite, Hellboy. Currently in development fo the next-gen consoles, the Hellboy game boasts not only Mignola’s direct involvement, but his movie daddy’s as well. Guillermo Del Toro and Mignola both are in charge of the creative aspect of the Konami-licensed title, due out sometime in 2007.

The action game will be released in 2007 and puts players in control of Hellboy, who comes armed with all of his familiar characteristics like the Right Hand of Doom.

With next-generation technology at his disposal, Del Toro said he wants to bring a cinematic sense of lighting and set design to the game. He and Mignola have been involved in approving the designs for characters and sets, and also have had input in selecting the voices, color pattern and lighting in the game.

“We’ve also approved and given comments on every aspect of the story and concept,” said Del Toro. “We have also been very careful in selecting the score’s quality and the people executing it, but we are just a helping hand. We are fortunate enough to be working with great developers that are fans of the comic and the movie.”

He plans to remain active in the video game space, too. “In the next decade, movies and games will fuse into a seamless platform,” Del Toro said. “You have to start blending the two into a single universe. Not a tie-in, not an ancillary market for a brand, you have to think of the storytelling universe as being one and the same. That’s the future.”
