Buy the Original Trilogy Again…For the 5th Time!

Nice Bill Hunt column on Digital Bits today about the upcoming re-re-re-release of the Star Wars Classic Trilogy DVDs:
Well… it seems we’ve started a bit of a firestorm with this business we posted yesterday about the original versions of the Star Wars films on the forthcoming (9/12) DVD release being offered in non-anamorphic widescreen video only. So be it. Sometimes, you have to call it like you see it. The news is absolutely true by the way. We’ve confirmed it specifically with reps of both Lucasfilm and Fox. It is no rumor.
Read the rest of this sad tale about bilking nerds HERE.
Although I will go on record to say that I once mentioned in passing: “You know, all Lucas has to do is dump the original trilogy on a no-frills DVD and be done with it. That would be fine and would satisfy everybody.” …I SAW THE FUTURE!! Well, if you take out the “satisfy” part.

I remember (a long, long time ago..) when I bought the first 4-6 trilogy (the originals) on VHS here in Finland. It clearly stated “The classic trilogy, for the last time!”. Rrright.

I am officially not buying these. I can see the future too: 2007 is the 30th Anniversary of Star Wars, and you can be sure they’ll be releasing a super duber box set, with all 6 films, and a remastered version of the originals. This is just a way for Lucasfilm to milk the cash cow for Christmas.
