Batman Beyond + Lesbian = The New Batwoman

Well, this is interesting. BBC News is reporting that they’ve got confirmation from DC that the new Batwoman spinning out of DC’s 52 will be Renee Montoya Renee Montoya’s girlfriend, an openly lesbian character. I personally don’t really care if half the JLA turns out to be gay in the new continuity, but this is damn well gonna twist the panties of batfans worldwide. If nothing else, it’s gonna make for some awesome message board rants!
Comic book heroine Batwoman is to make a comeback as a “lipstick lesbian” who moonlights as a crime fighter, a DC Comics spokesman has confirmed.
In her latest incarnation, she is a rich socialite who has a romantic history with another 52 character, ex-police detective Renee Montoya.

It says she has a relationship with Montoya. As far as I know, Batwoman will be Kathy Kane.

Personally I have nothing against a new Batwoman’s oreintation, but who is Kathy Kane(in thsi continity) and why would she don the Cape and Cowl?

I was just gonna say — it was in the Sunday Times, and was page 3 in the NY Daily News yesterday. Is this the first high profile gay character? Northstar doesn’t really cut it.
