I know that the weekly Opus strip doesn’t exactly reach the same heights on a regular basis as either Bloom County or Outland did, but dammit, you just can’t help but love Opus! It’s a family tradition in our house to watch the Opus Christmas special every holiday season, at least twice, sometimes more, and every few months my wife hounds me to find out when when when the planned Opus movie is coming out. So, it’s nice to see that Breathed is planning to produce at least one more of his utterly charming and beautiful childrens books next year. It doesn’t appear to have anything to do with any of his Bloom County characters, but that’s cool - Breathed has such an innocent, charming art and stoytelling style that I’m confident that “Mars Needs Moms” will become a staple of my daughter’s bedtime reading as soon as it’s released. Hopefully his new deal with Philomel Books will result in more books at a more regular schedule than we’ve had in the past.
