According to “The Advocate,” Brandon Routh cuts quite the gay figure as Superman, not that they’re complaining - so long as Supes comes out of the closet in a future installment of the Man of Steel’s cinematical adventures. The magazine is joined in this sentiment by “Out,” who calls Routh the second most exciting gay icon in Hollywood today. Of course, the real mystery here is why the hell would anyone vote for Paris Hilton as a gay icon at all, much less the number one most exciting…
Gay fans are so convinced the skin-tight suit and hands-on-hip stance are tell-tale signs, they’re demanding film bosses and comic book writers review future plots to accommodate his sexual tendencies.
New Superman Brandon Routh, who takes up the movie role this summer, was last month voted the year’s second most exciting homosexual icon by editors of gay magazine Out, behind Paris Hilton.

The thing about being a icon is that any group can pick anything or anyone and declare them a symbol… no matter how irrelevant it might seem to outsiders. Superheroes in general have become gay icons, and there are understandable reasons for this (the whole “secret identity” thing is pretty obvious).And, for the most part, superheroes are pretty positive role models.( I agree. though, that Paris Hilton shouldn’t be ANYONE’S role model…)
