Onslaught Revisited

What in the living hell is this crap? I actually understand why Marvel and DC continue to give Rob Liefeld work. For some unknown reason, the guy’s stuff still sells, and sells well. Of course, it’s also been the impetus for guys like me to drop series we’re on the bubble about entirely (I’m looking at you, Teen Titans), but apparently the increased sales overall outweigh the loss of a few old bastards like myself. Nonetheless, if you must give him work, why do you have to make it big projects? Why not something small, like The Aquarian:The Hidden Years, or Crimson Fox Does Dallas?

Somehow, the guy constantly manages to land fairly high-profile projects. This time around, he’s apparently taking on the whole Onslaught storyline with “Onslaught Reborn.” Now, I may be completely off, and this may receive absolutely no promotion at all from Marvel due to their being distracted by alerting the press to the umpty-million twists and turns in Civil War. But considering the fact that the last Onslaught story led into Heroes Reborn (another obnoxiously large payday for Robbo), this has at least the potential to be a big deal. It also had the potential to be something a lot of non-Liefeld fans would be interested in. I admit it - as much of a cock-up as Heroes Reborn turned out to be, the whole Onslaught destroying the Marvel Universe lead up to it was pure 4-color crack, and if it wasn’t for the bad aftertaste Heroes Reborn left in fandom’s collective mouths, it might be remembered a lot more fondly. Fondly enoug to at least warrant a decent creative team when the time came to revisit it, at least.
