It hasn’t hit YouTube so far, but CNBC anchor Joe Kernen apparently reported, on air and without irony, that “Pirates of the Carribean” beat last year’s record holder, “Aquaman” for the all time weekend box office record. Kernen was apparently channeling his inner Ron Burgundy“>Ron Burgundy and blindy read this nugget of truthiness straight off the teleprompter.

My jaw hit the floor when I heard that. For those of you that don’t know, Aquaman is not a real movie. It is a fictional movie created by the writers of the HBO hit series Entourage. The show made a big deal on how Aquaman, and the star Vincent Chase, beat Spiderman 2 in the first episode this season. The people behind the show even put a fake ad in Variety touting how Aquaman beat Spidey. I am sure this is what the fact checkers at CNBC found, and relayed it to their anchor. Keep up the good work HBO.
