Frank Miller, comics legend and close friend of the late, great Will Eisner, will adapt and direct the forthcoming film version of Eisner’s The Spirit, Variety is reporting. A panel on the movie has been announced for this week’s San Diego Comic-Con. Miller co-directed the well-received 2005 film version of Sin City, and is currently writing the screenplay for Sin City 2.

Brad Bird was supposed to be doing this as his follow-up to THE INCREDIBLES, but Disney didn’t go for it. Probably for the best, as I’d rather see Bird do something new…and given Miller’s recent comics work, maybe he should stick to adaptations …

Gah! I have to say I might’ve preferred to see Brad Bird take this on, but it’ll be interesting to see what Miller does.

That’s right, I totally forgot about that. I’d have loved to see Brad Bird do this too…I guess we’ll see what kind of directing chops Frank really has, since he’ll be doing it alone…
