Scarface not quite hardcore enough for you? Well, that may change with the X-rated platinum edition that’s due to be released in early October. In addition to what I assume will be even more violent fight scenes and shootouts is a litany of extras including deleted scenes, featurettes and more.

SCARFACE: THE REBIRTH: Actor Al Pacino, director Brian De Palma, producer Martin Bregman, and screenwriter Oliver Stone examine the history of Scarface, from the original 1932 classic to shooting the script.

I think the Pacino Scarface was threatened with an X rating at the time it was released…? But then De Palma toned down the chainsaw scene and everything was cool? This may have just been schoolyard gossip at the time.
Either way, Scarface and Carlito’s Way are two of the best, most watchable bad movies ever.

You know, I just have never gotten the cult around this film…and frankly, looking at the movie’s fans, I’m glad not to be one of them. Don’t any of those “bling-bling” crazed idiots realise he’s a VILLIAN who gets PUNISHED for his CRIMES?

Well, since you asked…frankly, it’s just substandard work by people who could all do better. It’s all just slumming- real “take-the-money-and-run” stuff. (As such, it’s a perfect symbol of what was wrong with Hollywood in the 1980’s… hell, I’m amazed it isn’t a “Simpson/Bruckheimer Production”…). But what really puzzles me is all the Hip-Hop types who see him as a role model… Oh, I get the whole “glamourous criminal” thing; it’s just that Tony Montana, the ACTUAL CHARACTER himself, DOESN”T SEEM TO BE HAVING A GOOD TIME.(As opposed to, say,Paul Muni in the original).

Scarface kicks ass! Tony Montana is my favorite character Al Pacino ever played; I only wish he was able to of voiced Tony in the soon to be released video game. I can’t wait for it, and I can’t wait to get my hands on this new DVD! Nobody compares to Antonio Montana, NO, BODY. I don’t see him as a role model, no way in hell would I, but I do love film, and he’s one of the greatest characters ever to of been shown on screen. I only wish I could of been alive to see the film on screen….

The Tony Montana character depicts what many rappers see as a “coming from the slums” hero. This is a guy that had nothing and ended up ruling all of Miami; atleast for a little while. I hate these rapper, wanna be gangstas… But Shaun Combs has seen Scarface 66 times. He claims the movie “teaches lessons”. I sure he doesn’t mean “Don’t get high on your own supply.”
