The superheroes were collared by coppers while over the legal limit during a nationwide summer blitz.

But the wannabe caped crusaders were mere mortals on their way home from a fancy dress party.

Batman was, in fact, a learner driver. His tutor, who was also over the limit, was in the passenger seat.
