“Boondocks” Cancelled - McGruder Kills His Strip

Seems that with the success off his animated series, Aaron McGruder’s decided to pull the plug on his six year old syndicated comic strip citing the need to refresh his creative juices.
It’s over for “The Boondocks” comic strip, at least for now. After six years — a remarkably short run for a strip that found its way into 300-plus newspapers, including The Washington Post — Universal Press Syndicate told subscribers yesterday they should start looking for someone to replace political/social satirist Aaron McGruder.
McGruder, a Columbia native who in his twenties became the Garry Trudeau of the hip-hop generation, took a sabbatical six months ago to recharge. The syndicate kept checking with him, reminding him that its newspaper clients needed several weeks in order to prepare for his return or his departure.

The title of this entry makes it look like the TV show was cancelled so MacGruder pulled the strip.

This isn’t a suprise- when you compare what little the censors allowed him to do in the newspapers to the freedom he had on TV, why wouldn’t he leave? If you want to know why newspaper strips are dying, that says it all…

I got bad news for you folks. If you were amused by Boondocks than there is a good chance you are a moron. Perhaps one of the STUPIDIST, most trite attempts at humor since the return of Marmaduke. I find it hard nausiating to watch and terribly un-funny. Without the race topic, McGruders got nothing up his sleeve. Sorry.

Wow, nicely done with the thread necromancy. Will you be telling us how overrated the Dreamcast is next?

Is the show cancelled or what?

I don’t think that the show is cancelled because if you look at the Boondocks episode list on tv.com right now it says returning series.

A marginally skilled artist with shitty political views. Not only should his cartoon have never have gone on the air, but his comics should never have been published.. there are MANY more “middle of the road” cartoons with a fair political adjenda… buuut, in the age of whining democrats, pussy liberals, shotgun toating republicans, and everyone blaming eachother for everything and not doing anything about it.. what do you expect.
