Spike Cancels “Blade”

Well, it was fun while it lasted, but Spike’s made it official – there’s no season two for “Blade: The Series.” The show premiered to over 2.5 million viewers, but closed with under a million tuning in. Presonally, I think it’s because the pilot was, frankly, a dud. If I hadn’t preemptively set up our DVR to record the show, my wife and I would have stopped right there. But we powered on and found a series that was genuinely enjoyable, with good characters and solidly entertaining storytelling. It wasn’t a genre-busting revelation like Battlestar Galactica’s turned out to be, but Blade still eventually managed to rise to the top of the pile as far as sci-fi/horror series go. In the Gerding household at least, it will be missed.
