The inventive director of the wonderful “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” the I-still-haven’t-seen “Science of Sleep,” the crummy and irritating “Human Nature,” and about 3-4 dozen amazing videos was shooting his latest film in Passaic, New Jersey, recently.

Passaic is unfortunately a bit of a joke around the tri-state area and has been for a long time (at least since I lived in Jersey waaaay back when), so the NYT decided to do a nice little article on the location shooting and what it meant to the community. Anyway, the write up contained this nice little tidbit about the new film, titled “Be Kind Rewind”:

The storyline of “Be Kind Rewind” follows the sort of surreal trajectory that has become the hallmark of Mr. Gondry’s films. It is about a hapless fellow, played by Jack Black, who lives in a junkyard next to a power plant, which in turn causes him to become magnetized. He inadvertently erases all the videotapes at a video store where his friend, played by Mos Def, works. They try to undo the damage by recreating, wholly haphazardly, movies like “Ghostbusters,” “RoboCop” and “Rush Hour 2.”
