Greg Land Is The New Rob Liefeld

Man, this message board thread takes me way, way back. About 7-8 years ago, you could have subbed in Rob Liefeld for Greg Land and had this exact exchange take place on the Awesome Comics boards over on AOL. I wasted more time arguing in vain over the difference between swiping and homaging with Liefeld, Loeb, Fraga and others. I never thought thaat the debate would ever turn into some sort of weird cyclical event, but it sure looks like it may be headed that way. We’ll check back in another 7-8 years or so and see who’s ripping of what then, I suppose. The saddest part is that Land’s not a talentless artist, and really shouldn’t be relying so heavily on the lightboxing. I wonder if there’s something more at play here than we realize, or if he really has become just that lazy.
In the meantime, I understand this is the convention-wear to have for the upcoming season:

Greg Land is a fantastic artist. His technique and results are so good, in fact, that Marvel loves him and there has been no copywrite related litigation.

wow its funny to see the uneducated opinions of non artists. there is nothing wrong with using a light box and it takes nothing away from the artistry there is still an amazing amount of work involved. so if you think he’s lazy you are no artist and should probably keep your opinions to yourself. Oh and Rob Liefeld is so far beneath Land artistically the comparison is unbelievably naive.
