The Act

I saw this video game highlighted in the 11-06-06 Red Herring mag and wanted to let y’all know about it.  The aforementioned RH article was about this new cell-drawn animation video game called The Act. Originally, I thought that The Act was yet another Dragon’s Lair or Space Ace-like clone just trying to cash in on the recent wave of 80s retro-game nostalgia. But according to RH as well as other sources, my blanket assessment may not be the case.

Created by Massachuetts-bassed Cecropia (pronounced “se-KRO-pia”) and drawn by former employees of the House of Mouse animation studios, the game utilizes a single knob to help Edgar, the main character, score a date with Sylvia, the cute nurse. The knob is used to gauge the interaction of Edgar in whatever scenario that he’s in - too much and he comes off as beeing too aggressive; too little and his actions are dismissed.

After reading up on this game, I was really looking forward to taking this game for a test drive but unfortunately, it’s strictly a coin-op game. Plus, it’s only available in bars in the home state of Red Sox Nation. However, Cecropia’s CEO Omar Khudari hasn’t ruled out offering The Act into a PSIII/Wii game or even a PC/Mac game. But until then, keep your eye out when you’re out and about, The Act might be playing in your local watering hole.
