Superman/Batman Movie Rumor

A couple days ago, Moviehole’s Caffeinated Clint column contained this little tidbit:
Was just having a conversation with someone at Warner about this whole “Superman Returns being greenlight” report - - and yeah, seems it’s true, but more to the point there’s a couple of reasons why it has got the greenlight. Mainly, “Warner are still interested in doing this Batman Vs. Superman thing – always have been. Its always been the plan to do it, but only after Batman and Superman had a couple of solo adventures – so that’s exactly what they’re going to do”. Apparently Brandon Routh and Christian Bale have even got together a couple of times to talk about the inevitable match-up. As for when it will happen? Who the fuck knows.
More in the actual column.

Instead of releasing mediocre sequels that continually water down both characters and disappoint fans, this magically craptastic idea can kill both franchises in one shot! Way to go, Warner Bros!

Why the venom? WB’s track record isn’t so bad.

Cause this will be stupid. Most crossover movies are.

Actually, WB’s track record IS that bad.You don’t make each suceeding BATMAN movie worse by accident… not to mention wasting all that time and money “developing” a Superman movie that would have stunk to high heaven (Burton and Cage? Could any pair have been LESS suited to the character?) Sure, they’ve rebounded a bit with RETURN and BEGINS, but don’t forget CATWOMAN is in that mix, too. And as a fun of 1960’s spy stuff, I HAVE to mention WILD WILD WEST and THE AVENGERS…No, WB has repeatedly shown it’s contempt for the fans…

Look, I’m the last person who’s going to defend a major Hollywood studio. All you say is very true, but still, Batman Begins and Superman Returns were solid…or maybe happy-ish accidents. Anyway, their cartoons are usually pretty top notch.
Although this:
Cause this will be stupid. Most crossover movies are.
is also very true.
Either way, a crossover is bound to happen soon — the current spate of superhero movies reminds me of the Universal horror flicks in a way. My bet is it’s in a Marvel movie before DC, but we’ll see.

Also, a question: is WILD WILD WEST (TV) on DVD yet? If so, how are the DVDs? That show ruled in so many ways.

WILD WILD WEST season 1 just came out a couple of months ago, and you’ll be relieved to know it holds up pretty damn good!(And I totally agree about WB’s cartoon output- shows what happens when you let people who actually LIKE superheroes take charge of the shows- not to mention the fact that Bruce Timm is like a zillion times more talented than Tim Burton…)

Gah, another TV box set on the wish list. Yikes. I love Wild Wild West. Can’t go wrong with a TV show canceled for its violence!
