I’m not sure if this needs to be done and it doesn’t really mean anything, but it’s neat anyway, especially to an ancient history dork like myself.

Swiss adventurer Bernard Weber is heading a campaign to name the “New Seven Wonders of the World,” presumably because the only surviving wonder of the original list are the Egyptian pyramids.

The important thing is the new wonders will be decided by a global poll! Just head over to the New 7 Wonders website to cast your vote.

The final 21 nominees — chosen by a panel of architectural experts — are:

-Statue of Liberty
-Pyramids
-Eiffel Tower
-Taj Mahal
-Machu Picchu
-Acropolis
-Haghia Sophia
-the Kremlin and St. Basil’s Cathedral
-the Colosseum
-Neuschwanstein Castle
-Stonehenge
-Alhambra
-the Great Wall
-Kiyomizu Temple
-the Sydney Opera House
-Angkor Watt
-Timbuktu
-Petra, Jordan
-Brazil’s Statue of Christ
-Easter Island
-Chichen Itza, Mexico

Overall, a pretty great list, actually. A couple of them are headscratchers to me (uh, the Statue of Liberty? Stonehenge? those are neat and all, but…), however, hey, everyone has their own personal preference. Choose wisely.
