CCA - Olympic Sales Club

Even more than GRIT, these ads intrigued me as a kid. Imagine, getting a catalog and selling just 13 “All Occassion Cards and Notes, Personalized Stationary and exciting Gifts” in my neighborhood, and in exchange I could walk away with a freaking bow and arrow! Even better, if I sold 34 “Gifts,” I could get a metal detector with which I could find buried treasures to sell for money…to buy a bow and arrow with!
The coolest part of the ad was always Dawn, the sexy Captain “O” operator who dressed in her own superhero outfit just to take my name and address info down. In retrospect, I wonder just how many “Dawns” Captain Olympic had working in his call center. Whatever the answer, I’m willing to bet not a one of them looked like the Dawn in the illustration - yowza!

I actually used to sell this stuff. Don’t remember what toys I got with my points, but I do remember that when I chose the cash instead, my father put it in a “special account” that to this day I have never had access to.

I sold this too, for 4 years as a child, I got a glove, tv, skateboard, then moved up to the cash. It taught me to earn what I wanted. Too bad I can’t find the ways to teach that to MY kids :)

It is 2:20AM and I was just sitting here trying to put order to my gazillion files and it hit me… When I was a kid I was a hustler.. I remember selling “Olympic Sales Club” stationary to my neighbors and I remember coming home from school everyday for a month… HOPEING… that there would be a box on the front doorstep with my “Carving Knifes” (Remember those little exacto knifes with the million and one changing blades?)… Anyhow, I thought I would see if they were still in business but :

I remember selling olympic sales club. I was 10 or 11 yrs old. I guess for a kid it wasnt a bad little way to earn money, especially when you could send your mom to work with the magazine. When my cute little ass would show up at your door you couldnt help but say yes and but something, even if you didnt need it. lol
