Civil War - Where To Start? Where To Stop?

Despite the negative reactions and stupid missteps I’ve read about Civil War over the past several months, I find myself drawn to the damn thing. The current issue of Previews has listed no fewer than five Civil War collections listed, including he main Civil War TPB and 4 side-stories. But when the tie-in collections include Amazing Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four, it’s hard for someone coming into the story cold to know what can be skipped witout losing story essential elements and what should be avoided altogether.
So, here’s my question to anyone who’s actually keeping up with this thing. At a bare minimum, what would I need to buy to get the most out of my Civil War reading without buying every freaking crossover collection Marvel’s going to churn out over the next few months?

You can ignore Young Avengers/Runaways, and Iron Man,
Must reads are Amazing Spiderman, CW Frontline,
While It was really good its not necessary to follow the story Captian America’s tie in was very well written as well as the Winter Solider oneshot, which was somewhat Civil war involved.
I’m on the fence on Punisher War Journal and Fantastic Four (I don’t know if they are necessary or not, but they do expand a lil on the story as a whole)
New Avengers was really hit or miss, the Sentry story was bad, but the Captian American and Iron Man were ok.
I think thats all of them

So, the core mini and ASM? Is Frontline a seperate series? I totally forget…

Oh yeah - will I need to buy the Punisher stuff if I want to see Frank Castle wearing supervillain entrails, or is that handled by the core mini?

somejerk’s right, ASM has been solid, but that’s mainly cause it explores Spidey unmasking, and his conflicting feelings as the war goes on. And definitely the main mini, as long you’re at it.

You will get to see the Big Punisher moments in teh Main Mini, but to expand upon them you will need War Journal
