One of the weakest parts in “Batman Begins” was easily the Katie Holmes character, shoehorned into Bruce Wayne’s past for no discernable reason other than to provide a damsel in distress. Thankfully, Holmes is busy with other projects and won’t be sullying the sequel with her character. Here’s hoping the writer, director and producer take this as a sign and flat out skip any unneeded love interest sub-plots.

Holmes, who is making her return to acting after maternity leave, has dropped out of “The Dark Knight,” Warner Bros.’ Christopher Nolan-directed sequel to “Batman Begins.”

Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Gary Oldman are locked for returns, and Heath Ledger is set to play the Joker in the pic, which begins shooting this spring.
