The NYT covers the Wii vs. Piii vs. 360 Christmas fall out. It relates a lot of info you probably already know if you’ve been following this whole ordeal, but still, an interesting read.
The Wii, which uses an innovative wireless controller to translate the players’ motions onto the screen, has upset the order of the video game world. In electronics stores and elsewhere, there are growing signs that the Wii has taken the lead in buzz and sales over another new console, the Sony PlayStation 3, which offers new superlatives in processing power and graphics.
The competitive picture became clearer on Tuesday, when Sony reported disappointing profits that industry analysts attributed largely to the expensive and shaky rollout of the PlayStation 3 and lukewarm demand for the complex machines. By contrast, Nintendo said last week that its own third-quarter sales were up 40 percent from a year earlier, buoyed by Wii sales.
Discussed elsewhere: the early financial ramifications of the PS3’s wobbly launch.

I’m really interested in seeing how Nintendo sustains the Wii. I’m not doubting that they can do it — rather, I think it’s going to be fun to see what they come up with.

Nintendo is awesome, they don’t havet he $$ or the resources that Sony and MS have, but they are going to survive with inovation. (i hope)

Nintendo isn’t exactly poor — I think they’re like a $30 million/year company. Probably more than that. But it’s really true — they’re not a superpower like MS or Sony, yet they’re competing with them.

Check that; they’re way more than $30 mil. Don’t know what I was thinking.

Wii’s sucess is because it’s NOT targeting the hard-core game nerds; it’s aiming at the general public, who want games to be easy and fun.(I’ve heard SENIOR CITIZENS comment on how much fun that l’il nunchuck thingie is).PS3 is trying to look cool with it’s pretentious “WE ARE THE FUTURE” ads, but they’re just alienating casual gamers…
